Alliott Cole joins Octopus Ventures team as Investment Manager

Octopus Ventures Ltd, the Private Investor Group specialising in investment in young, growing businesses valued at between £2 million and £10 million, is pleased to announce the appointment of Alliott Cole as an Investment Manager with immediate effect.

He will report directly to Alex Macpherson, Chief Executive of Octopus Ventures, and will work with the rest of the Octopus Ventures team on the identification of investment opportunities with the potential to generate impressive returns for Octopus investors.

Alliott, 29, joins Octopus Ventures following four years at ashurst, the international law firm, where he worked within the corporate finance and private equity teams advising on a number of high profile transactions. These transactions involved a diverse range of ashurst clients, including Apax Partners, Goldman Sachs, Markit Group plc, Sporting Bet plc, Terra Firma Capital Partners and The Waterman Group plc.

Most recently, he was seconded to the investment banking teams at N M Rothschild & Sons for six months to advise on legal and regulatory issues relating to a number of national, international and cross-boarder takeovers, acquisitions and corporate finance transactions.

In addition, Alliott has considerable experience of working within an entrepreneurial environment. In recent years he has advised and assisted with the incorporation, equity structure and negotiation of key contracts for Adrenalin Experts, a start-up business specialising in team-building exercises and extreme experiences; The Handy Squad, a London handyman service based in central London; and Bulldog, a company specialising in natural grooming products for men, available in over 300 Sainsburys' stores nationwide.

Commenting on Alliott Cole’s appointment, Alex Macpherson, Chief Executive, Octopus Ventures Ltd, said: “I am delighted to be welcoming Alliott to Octopus Ventures. The combination of his strong legal background, extensive knowledge of a broad range of industries and thorough understanding of the challenges facing early stage companies, makes him a considerable asset not only to our team but the companies in which we invest.”

Alliott Cole said: “The opportunity to work with such a high calibre team and apply both the legal and business skills I have acquired to helping young, dynamic businesses grow was an extremely exciting prospect and too good to miss. I am really looking forward to playing my part in ensuring that the companies which Octopus Ventures back financially and mentor throughout their development reach their full potential and generate significant returns for Octopus investors.”
