Acrobot appoints first distributor

Acrobot’s surgical navigation system for hip resurfacing to be distributed by Corin in UK, Germany &

London, 27 May 2008 … The Acrobot Company Limited (Acrobot), computer-assisted surgery specialists, has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Corin Group PLC for certain key markets, including the UK, Germany and Australia.

Under the terms of the Agreement, Corin has exclusive distribution rights in these markets for the Acrobot Navigation system for hip resurfacing procedures. Corin will purchase systems from Acrobot and market them through its own in-country sales infrastructure.

The agreement will enable more customers to access Acrobot’s Navigation system: technology that is now usable in a wider range of procedures including uni-condylar knee and total hip replacements.

This distribution arrangement is Acrobot’s first commercial route-to-market agreement and covers the important procedural area of hip resurfacing in several key markets for that procedure.

Graeme Brookes, CEO of Acrobot, said: “Our excellent relationship with Corin, a leader in the hip resurfacing field, has played a fundamentally important part in enabling us to bring our systems to market. The relationship with Corin was instrumental in the initial development of the Acrobot Navigation system, and this coupled with the strength and reach of Corin’s sales infrastructure provides excellent opportunities for both parties. We are very pleased to have now formalised our commercial relationship with Corin”.

“The Acrobot system enables surgeons to plan and perform Cormet hip resurfacing surgery with a level of precision that was not possible before” added Peter Huntley, CEO of Corin Group PLC. “This system gives us a competitive advantage in the hip resurfacing field in some of our major markets, and we are looking forward to working closely with Acrobot to promote this innovative technology”.

Acrobot® provides precision surgical systems for computer-assisted 3D planning, surgical navigation and surgeon-controlled robotic surgery. The overall goal of Acrobot’s technologies is to provide speed, accuracy and reproducibility, enhancing clinical outcomes, whilst augmenting surgeon skills and facilitating bone conservation and increasing productivity. Acrobot’s currently available portfolio includes Acrobot Planner, which offers 3D surgical planning and visualization software and Acrobot Navigation, which uses a unique mechanical method to track conventional surgical instruments relative to the patient to achieve high surgical accuracy. Acrobot is also progressing the development of the Acrobot Sculptor® Robotic System, a motorised programmable device, which uses patent protected ‘active constraint’ technology to prevent a surgeon accidentally moving outside a specified area. This cutting edge robotic solution is at an advanced development stage, undergoing final clinical evaluation prior to commercial release in 2008.
