Hansjorg Sage to become responsible for GIMV’s ICT activities in the German speaking countries

Press release
Antwerp, 28 July 2008

GIMV, one of Europe’s most important private equity and venture capital providers, is pleased to announce today that Hansjörg Sage joined as a Partner. Simultaneously, two other Investment Managers have joined the company. Hansjörg will head GIMV’s ICT (Information & Communication Technology) investment activities in the German speaking countries. The two Investment Managers will reinforce GIMV’s vertical sector knowledge in electronics and telecommunication.

Hansjörg said “I was attracted to GIMV because of the high quality of the investment professionals, the top quartile returns and the pragmatic and commercial investment approach GIMV has. The European Venture Capital market is consolidating which will lead to a handful of strong European brands as the end game. I am convinced that GIMV is to be one of these brands.”

Alex Brabers said “GIMV has already a track record of technology investments in the German market with companies such as Coreoptics and Digital Imaging Systems (DIS). The German market is not as mature as the French or UK market. But a lot of new initiatives are being developed at this moment. This makes it an interesting time for GIMV to enter the German market. Moreover, this supports our strategy to provide to the best European start-ups an international investment offering with local investment professionals in Belgium, The Netherlands, France and Germany.”

Hansjörg Sage was formerly a Director in 3i’s global Venture Capital team where he focused on hardware-related early- and late-stage investments in European technology start-ups, mainly in the electronics, semiconductor and cleantech sectors. He managed investments in u-blox, h t e and Dialog Imaging Systems. Prior to 3i Hansjörg worked on technology investments in Europe and Israel at Lehman Brothers. He started his career as a strategy consultant with the Boston Consulting Group in 1997. Hansjörg holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Karlsruhe and a PhD from the University of Strasbourg in control theory and robotics. In addition, Hansjörg obtained an MBA from Insead.

Next to Hansjörg, two other Investment Managers will join the team. Raffi Kamber will work out of the French office where he will be complementary to Geoffroy Dubus. His previous professional experience includes Bouygues Telecom, Thales and Autostar. Raffi holds a degree in engineering and an MBA from Insead.

Johan Reynaert will work out of the Antwerp office of GIMV. Previously he was working as an International Business Development Manager at IMEC. Johan holds a PhD in Microelectronics at IMEC and an MBA from Insead.
