Racing Post selects Diffusion - Push Technology’s enterprise messaging solution to stream betting prices online in real-time

- Push’s Diffusion enterprise messaging technology supports some 60,000 iPhone app users during Cheltenham Festival

LONDON, 15th June, 2011 – Push Technology Ltd, the leading specialist provider of high performance enterprise messaging and Internet communications solutions, has announced that its Diffusion Internet Message Broker technology has been successfully deployed by Racing Post to power its online service and its chart-topping Racing Post mobile applications for iPhone and Android.

Using Diffusion, Racing Post is able to provide its customers with the latest racing information and prices at zero latency, while minimising the volume of data it serves to its online customers – whether mobile, using a website, or accessing services via a Racing Post kiosk in a bookmakers shop. The result has been a massive growth in Racing Post’s online services, with its new iPhone app spending four days as the No. 1 Sports application in the iTunes store with record downloads during the Cheltenham Festival where 60,000 customers used the app on their iPhones.

Racing Post’s website and mobile services have become the online destination of choice for horse-racing enthusiasts looking for the latest information to help them make informed choices when picking winners. “When we launched our Racing Post iPhone application we knew that it had the potential to be a game-changer for our industry, however we were also aware that our customers wouldn’t accept anything less than real-time, reliable access to the latest racing information and betting prices,” commented Paul Carse, IT Director at Racing Post.

“Having first used our own in-house messaging system – and experienced the inevitable throttling that we always had to impose when customer interaction levels spiked during major events – we knew we needed an enterprise-class messaging approach for our online services. Diffusion has given us the real-time performance we need,” he continued. “Previously during major events such as Cheltenham or the Grand National we had to limit performance – sometimes by up to 20 seconds at the busiest times – in order to maintain online services. Since deploying Diffusion we don’t need to throttle back at all.”

That’s particularly important when a customer might be using his mobile at a racecourse and only has one bar of signal available.”

In addition to pricing and odds information, Push’s Diffusion solution also enables Racing Post to distribute a broad range of additional data. According to Paul Carse: “Diffusion is proving a very powerful and diverse toolset for Racing Post, allowing us to provide our online customers with additional value added services such as in-race live text commentaries, analytical statistics, race status data as well as a fast results service. Diffusion can also generate triggers for Racing Post customers, letting them know when new website content – such as a live newsfeed – is available.”
