LANXESS invests in High-Tech Gruenderfonds II

Bonn - 10.04.2013

High-Tech Gruenderfonds II is pleased to present specialty chemicals company LANXESS as a further investor from the chemical sector.

The Leverkusen-based LANXESS has made an investment in the fund that runs in the low seven figures. This investment brings the number of investors from German industry to 17 and raises the current fund volume to EUR 301,5 million.

Dr. Paul Wagner, Group Leader for Function, Innovation & Technology with LANXESS, states: “Our investment in HGTF II will give us insight into the technologies and trends that emerge from the innovative, German start-up market and help broaden our perspective beyond that provided by our own Research and Development team.”

Dr. Michael Brandkamp, Managing Director of High-Tech Gruenderfonds, offers: “In 2012 we began a concerted effort to facilitate a significant increase in the number of start-ups working in the areas of chemistry and related disciplines in Germany. Our investors from the chemical industry are reliable, cooperative partners with a variety of complementary strengths and, thanks to them, we are able to support young high-tech companies as they grow their businesses and help ease their access to relevant markets. By bringing together large, established firms with newly-emerging operations, High-Tech Gruenderfonds is helping to strengthen the powers of innovation in Germany.”

For those young, innovative companies in the chemical sector that are included in High-Tech Gruenderfonds’ portfolio, the benefits are considerable. These include access to the guidance of industry leaders, assistance with their Business Development activities and, in some cases, even direct financial investment from established players in the chemical industry.

LANXESS is a leading specialty chemicals company that achieved sales of EUR 9,1 billion in 2012. Currently the company employs approximately 17,200 people at 48 production facilities in 31 countries. The company’s core business comprises the development, manufacture and sale of plastics, rubber, specialty chemicals and intermediates. LANXESS is a member of the leading sustainable indices Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), World and FTSE4Good as well as Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI).
