Caremondo secures seven-figure investment from Holtzbrinck Ventures to build a global marketplace fo

Munich, Germany. November 11, 2015 – Munich-based startup Caremondo, which launched its international platform for medical tourism this year, has secured new seven-figure financing from venture capitalist Holtzbrinck Ventures and business angels, allowing the company to further expand its international reach.

“Caremondo is active in a rapidly growing market that is worth billions and yet not very transparent today,” said Lars Langusch, General Partner of Holtzbrinck Ventures. “That makes it all the more exciting to build up a trusted marketplace where patients and clinics are interconnected.”
Using the seven-figure investment, the company aims to continue growth into new markets outside of Europe.
“Now that we have established our hospital portfolio in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, we’re expanding internationally to attract a more global patient flow,” says Co-Founder and Managing Director Andreas Otto. “We currently have more than 50 world-renowned partner clinics, for example the Charité Berlin, one of the world’s most reputable hospitals.”
Falk Erzgräber, Head of International Health Care at the Charité Berlin, says, 'We are very pleased to be working with Caremondo.'
The company was founded in late 2014 by Veronika Leitermann, a previous director of Simon-Kucher & Partners, and Andreas Otto, former BCG consultant and co-founder of Rocket Internet’s ‘The Iconic’.
“The global market for medical tourism is booming. Today, many people look online for the best medical or aesthetic treatments worldwide,” the two founders say. “We give Caremondo’s medical travellers the chance to book appointments at our carefully chosen health care facilities – all internationally recognized with quality certificates. In addition, Caremondo organizes travel, visas, and relevant medical documents.”
The founders explain that 50 healthcare facilities internationally have already benefited from the partnerships. Caremondo’s global online marketing activities enhance their visibility and increase their international patient inflow.
