Artificial Medical Intelligence Introduces EMscribe Dx For
Automatic Scanning and Coding of Medical Documents

Specifically Designed for Hospitals; Significantly Reduces Medical Billing Errors by Accurately Matching Medical Phrases, Including Physician Slang, to Appropriate ICD9 Diagnostic Codes

Dallas—HIMSS Conference-February 14, 2005 -Artificial Medical Intelligence (AMI) today announced the introduction of its EMscribe Dx offering, an automatic coding solution that scans documents containing medical phrases and matches them to appropriate ICD9 diagnostic codes.

It is the only automated coding solution specifically designed for hospital coding requirements and covers all clinical disciplines and subspecialties including medicine, pediatrics and cardiology, radiology oncology, etc. With EMscribe Dx, hospital or other facilities can increase accuracy, reduce coding expenditures, decrease reimbursement-processing costs and ultimately increase profitability.

EMscribe Dx’s patent pending natural language technology, matches not only routine medical terminology to appropriate codes, but colloquial terms or slang that physicians use as well. This means that over coding and under coding errors can diminish because the software “understands” when the use of a medical term represents a codeable event and when it should be ignored.

“We developed EMscribe Dx to meet the growing need among hospitals and other care providers for an efficient, time saving and cost effective coding solution,” asserted Andrew B. Covit, M.D., a board certified nephrologist and chief executive officer of Artificial Medical Intelligence,
Inc. “Every healthcare institution in the industry utilizes the ICD9 diagnostic coding system to submit medical claims. Yet many facilities lose out on medical income due to under coding, missed charges or un-reimbursed claims. These medical billing errors occur because human coders by nature are less consistent and slower than machines. EMscribe Dx requires no human intervention yet offers console monitoring features if an operator so chooses. EMscribe Dx allows healthcare transactions to be quickly and accurately matched appropriately and at the very least, allows the coder unparalleled degrees of efficiency.”

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey, is currently piloting AMI’s EMscribe Dx solution.

According to Robert Irwin, chief information officer, of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, “We are excited about the potential efficiencies that EMscribe Dx could bring to our coding process. The solution shows the promise of a more efficient, accurate and less tedious method than our current manual process. In addition, by utilizing standard HL7 interfaces, it is easily integrated with our legacy systems.”

Pricing and Availability
EMscribe Dx is available immediately and is sold as an on-site appliance for $125,000. Configuration, training and yearly subscription fee are priced separately. Interested parties can call (866) 415-6112 or email:
