First Patent Granted for OnRelay’s MBX
Singapore grants OnRelay patent PO nr 97423, WO 02/078368 for MBX

London, United Kingdom - 5 September 2005 – OnRelay today announced it has been granted its first patent for MBX in Singapore. The MBX patent covers the fundamental MBX system architecture and all basic call flows of the MBX system, including its seamless routing of mobile calls in both directions via PBX systems.

The MBX patent that was granted in Singapore is identical to the international application (PCT/IB01/02298) that was deemed by the international patent authority (PCT) in 2003 to meet all their requirements with regard to novelty, inventive step and industrial applicability. This patent has been subsequently filed in a number of territories with priority from December 2000.

The core of the MBX patent is OnRelay’s underlying Telephony Internetworking Protocol (TINPTM). TINP is based on end-to-end separation of telephony signaling and transport across multiple standards, operators, and network boundaries. TINP is a fundamentally new way of allowing mobile phones to seamlessly interconnect with PBX switches and corporate IP Telephony servers on a global scale in an operator independent manner.

“The rise of smart programmable mobile phones is now making the MBX technology practical and scalable for our enterprise customers.” says Ivar Plahte, OnRelay CEO. “It is widely recognised in the industry that OnRelay is years ahead with a real, working and complete Fixed Mobile Convergence solution, and this fundamental patent gives us another advantage in this space that will make OnRelay very tough to beat over the coming years.”

Marie Wold, President & CFO of OnRelay was quick to point out how OnRelay’s patent adds one further notch in Europe’s dominant and increasing lead in mobile telephony and Fixed Mobile Convergence. Wold notes, “In Europe this year, BT has announced its consumer FMC offering, European operators have aggressively rolled out 3G services, Nokia has become the global leader in 3G mobile phones and has made firm commitments to work with OnRelay and leading PBX vendors in the FMC space, Luxembourg based Skype is pushing onto mobile devices, and Northern European enterprises are increasingly using mobile phones as their primary office phone, thereby driving the market towards much improved offerings such as MBX. All the while Asia remains consumer driven, and the US has found Voice over WiFi vs. 3G as yet another mobile standards battle to fight out while mobile coverage remains poor.”
