Investment Success at Silverstone Innovation Centre
Investment Success at Silverstone Innovation Centre
Over 80 people attended the inaugural Northamptonshire Investment meeting held at Silverstone Innovation Centre recently. Organised by Oxford Innovation in collaboration with Invest Northamptonshire, the meeting provided a forum for investors from Northamptonshire and surrounding areas to see five investment opportunities in innovative companies, and enjoy a high quality networking session. A number of attendees also opted to join a Formula 1 Testing Session at Silverstone Circuit before the meeting. Keith Barwell, Chairman of Northampton Rugby Club, opened the meeting and the presenting companies included Cyclops UK Ltd, who are producing an in-car speed camera information system, and Captimax Ltd, who create additional media value in motorsport through their patented TV camera-tracking technology, “Navicam,” which enables close-ups of racing cars to be sustained over several seconds, providing a better show for TV viewers and increased brand visibility for on-car sponsors. Guest speaker, Ann Tate, Vice Chancellor of The University of Northampton, described the university’s role in supporting businesses in the knowledge economy. The presentations were followed by a lively networking session with companies able to discuss their plans face to face with business angel investors. Dr David Kingham, Chief Executive of Oxford Innovation, who manage Silverstone Innovation Centre and run three highly successful investment networks, said: “This meeting showed that there is significant investor demand in Northamptonshire for access to high quality, selected investment opportunities, offering the potential of high growth and reward. Local entrepreneurs need access to a forum where they can raise the funding needed to develop their businesses. Our meeting format is not Dragon’s Den. We allow the companies 15 minutes to pitch their ideas without interruption. We received very positive feedback from investors, sponsors and companies presenting at the meeting, and I would like to thank them for their valuable support. We now hope to work in conjunction with the sponsoring organisations and investors to establish an ingoing Northamptonshire Investment Network.” Paul Taylor, Chief Executive of Invest Northamptonshire, said: “It is important for the growth of the county that our entrepreneurs choose to build their businesses here. To support them, we need an effective Investment Network and this event marks a significant step forward in its development.” The Northamptonshire Investment Meeting was sponsored by Invest Northamptonshire, as lead sponsor, with co-sponsorship provided by HSBC Bank, BKR Haines Watts, West Northamptonshire Development Corporation, and Northamptonshire County Council. Oxford Innovation runs three highly successful investment networks, including Europe’s leading technology investment network, Oxfordshire Investment Opportunity Network (OION), that have helped 90 growing companies raise £19.5 million during the last five years. Oxford Innovation also manages Silverstone Innovation Centre, one of a network of 12 Innovation Centres operated by the company housing over 300 technology businesses. PHOTOS AVAILABLE ON REQUEST 1.
