linguatec Personal Translator now with the voice of SVOX

Munich and Zurich, 08 November, 2005 -- Munich-based language technology expert linguatec GmbH has entered a strategic partnership with Swiss text-to-speech specialist SVOX AG. In the new 2006 version, the linguatec translation program Personal Translator now boasts a speech-output component from SVOX which features an intriguingly natural-sounding voice.

Personal Translator with integrated reader
As a world-wide leader in this field, SVOX offers a text-to-speech (TTS) system of ground-breaking quality which perfectly complements the translation technology of Personal Translator 2006, for which an international patent has been filed. The SVOX TTS engine converts written text in real time to clearly articulated speech with a natural-sounding voice. “Synthetic voices can now hardly be distinguished from the human voice both in accent and intonation”, confirms Volker Jantzen, CEO of SVOX AG. “Our vision is for devices which talk to humans to become an irreplaceable companion in everyday life.” The renowned translation program Personal Translator provides an impressive demonstration: The user can listen to and check both original texts and translations in outstanding quality – in German, English and French!

More joint projects planned
linguatec and SVOX plan to extend their successful collaboration to more joint projects in the future. “In the era of mobile phones, MP3 players and multimedia PCs, high-quality speech output of written text offers the most varied applications both for professional office communication and entertainment”, says Dr. Reinhard Busch, Managing Director of linguatec. And the pleasant voices of SVOX text-to-speech provide an ideal basis for this.

SVOX AG is a leading provider of speech output solutions for the automotive and mobile device industries. SVOX’s core product is the SVOX Text-to-Speech system.
