Top Software Industry Talent Join Appear Networks

Stockholm, November 16th, 2005 – Continuing on an impressive 400% growth year over year in revenues, Appear Networks announced today the appointment of two leading software development specialists to its Stockholm-based European headquarters.

Karl Avedal joins Appear Networks directly from running his own company focusing on methods to develop domain specific languages. He has extensive programming experience in a wide variety of middleware technologies and is considered one of the top Java developers in Europe. In 1999, he co-founded Ironflare AB, the creators of the Orion Application Server, which quickly became a major player in the J2EE application server space. In 2000, the Orion Application Server became the first application server to implement all of J2EE and in 2001 Oracle licensed the Orion technology. Mr. Avedal is also the co-author of the books Professional JSP and Professional Java Server Programming, J2EE Edition, both published in 2000 and has worked in several of Sun Microsystem’s expert groups within the J2EE field where he worked to stipulate J2EE specifications.

Mr. Avedal commented, “I am pleased to join the Appear team and look forward to further developing their exciting technology. I am confident that my technical experience building and licensing the world’s fastest application server will enable me to contribute to the integration of Appear’s middleware technology with existing databases and application servers.”

Björn Carlson joins Appear Networks from OMX Technology, where he led the development of a .Net and Oracle based server for the management of securities and cash. He is a leading computer scientist with experience in network programming, software architecture, web design, and security. Prior to working with OMX, he was a developer and architect at AOL/Netscape in Mountain View, California, USA where he developed servers for dynamic web pages. Mr. Carlson has a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Uppsala, Sweden.

Mr. Carlson added, “My experience with large scale transaction systems at OMX as well as cutting-edge server technologies at Netscape will complement Appear’s know-how in enterprise mobility software. I look forward to working with Appear to further extend their global reach and develop their innovative technology.”
