Siemens Venture Capital strengthens its activities Asia

Munich, Mumbai, Beijing; March 23, 2006 -- Siemens Venture Capital (SVC), the €700 million corporate venture organization for all Siemens businesses, announced today that it is extending its activities in India and China. SVC’s goal is to identify and finance investments in emerging and innovative technologies and market opportunities to enhance the core business scope of Siemens and create attractive returns on the capital invested. The investment focus covers critical infrastructure technologies in the field of information and communications, medical solutions, automation and control, power, automotive technology, transportation systems, and lighting.

From June 2006, Mr. Rajesh Vakil will handle all venture capital related inquiries in India, working out of Mumbai and Bangalore, India. By the same time Siemens Venture Capital will have increased its presence in China, with three investment professionals, joining Ms Madeline Song, working out of Beijing and Shanghai.

“We are actively looking for interesting deals that fall within our investment focus. Our plan is to close at least two to three deals in China and India within the next 12 months,” says Dr. Ralf Schnell, President and CEO of Siemens Venture Capital.

“The high-tech industry in China and India combined with Siemens’ worldwide presence and resources is a winning combination. With our local presence, penetration into the local venture capital and startup community will be closer and more effective. The emerging venture capital network will help to achieve a good level of deal flow quickly and thus identify attractive new technology startups alongside our existing investments. The decision to increase venture capital activities in the heart of the emerging high-tech markets is a significant step forward and will help to support the Siemens global network of innovation,” Dr. Ralf Schnell explains.

Mr. Juergen Schubert, Managing Director of Siemens Ltd. India, confirms: “Innovation is the lifeblood of Siemens AG’s global success over the last 158 years. In India Siemens has driven innovation across the entire value chain of our business portfolio. Research needs to be carried out where science and technology are vibrant. India has tremendous R&D strengths including talented manpower. It is also an emerging market with tens of thousands of young and highly qualified entrepreneurs, who have brilliant ideas and are looking for business partners. Which is why, through its venture capital activities, Siemens will actively support new business opportunities in order to leverage this vast potential to the fullest. In turn, this will significantly enrich our innovative competitiveness across the globe.”

Also Dr. Richard Hausmann, President and CEO of Siemens Ltd. China, welcomes the strengthening of the local activities: “With 36,000 local employees, Siemens is already one of the largest employers among foreign invested enterprises in China. The company's excellent reputation helps to attract and retain some of the best talent in the market. Venture capital activities will play an important role in supporting our innovation leadership in collaboration with our local R&D and software development centers, which will be substantially expanded. This includes a global R&D center for broadband technology and an application-oriented research center for information and communications, automation and automotive technologies.”

By leveraging the global power and resources of Siemens, SVC offers entrepreneurs
