picoChip receives Frost & Sullivan 2006 Award
Wins 2006 Semiconductors Industry Innovation & Advancement of the Year Award

27 April 2006 -- picoChip, the leader in multi-core DSPs for advanced wireless and the industry-standard for WiMAX infrastructure, today announced that it received Frost & Sullivan’s prestigious 2006 Semiconductors Industry Innovation & Advancement of the Year Award. The Award is part of their Excellence in Industrial Technologies Awards, and recognizes picoChip for demonstrating excellence in product innovation, development, and commercialization of its multi-core DSP products and platforms for the wireless industry. It follows the recent introduction of picoChip’s PC20x next generation family of devices, which broke the $1/GMAC barrier.

Frost & Sullivan's Industry Innovation & Advancement of the Year Award is bestowed each year upon a company that has proven to be a leader in the industry and who, through its pioneering technology, sound business strategy, superior customer relations and ongoing educational efforts, has been consistently successful in moving the state-of-the-industry forward. This award recognition is the result of extensive market analysis of the world wireless market conducted by Frost & Sullivan's industry analysts.

Vinoth Praveen, senior research analyst for Frost & Sullivan, “picoChip has introduced unique and innovative solutions for the wireless industry, in contrast to the more conventional approaches of its competitors. This strategy has clearly paid off: the company’s WiMAX solution is now widely accepted and adopted by the industry’s key manufacturers. Through strategic alliances with the world’s leading companies, picoChip has emerged as a leader in the wireless industry. Their performance and software-defined approach will be assisting the whole wireless industry in advancing to its next stage.”

picoChip’s President and CEO, Guillaume d'Eyssautier, commented, “picoChip is honored to receive this coveted Frost & Sullivan Award. This mark of distinction further emphasises the growing market acceptance for our multi-core DSP architecture. Our picoArrayTM devices and software-defined platforms for WiMAX, HSDPA and other next-generation wireless have achieved significant market acceptance. We are committed to delivering even more advanced and innovative multi-core DSP solutions to our customers in the future.”

picoChip provides software defined radio solutions to the key challenges of cost, development time and flexibility for the next generation of wireless systems. The company’s multi-core processors deliver a world-beating price/performance combination. Uniquely, the company also delivers complete, standard-compliant reference designs for UMTS (HSDPA, upgradeable to HSUPA) and WiMAX/WiBRO (both 802.16d and 802.16e, with support for AAS and MIMO). WiMAX systems using picoChip are available from Airspan, Intel, Ericsson, Nortel, Marconi and a number of other manufacturers. picoChip technology is also being used to develop other advanced wireless protocols such as EVDO, 802.20 and TD-SCDMA, and in 4G research.

About picoChip
picoChip, located in Bath, England, is dedicated to providing innovative, flexible wireless solutions to help equipment makers minimize time-to-market, costs, and system power consumption.

The heart of the company’s offering is a scaleable, multi-processor baseband IC that combines the computational density of a dedicated ASIC with the programmability of a traditional high end Digital Signal Processor. This radically reduces both development time and materials cost and enables the strategic goal of the “Software Defined Radio”. The company has the most comprehensive reference designs in the industry, with complete, standard-compliant solutions for both UMTS (including HSDPA) and WiMAX (802.16d upgradeable to 802.16e). www.picochip.com
