CMPT Commences Clinical Trials of Nasal Spray for Hay Fever

CMP Therapeutics is a relatively new Oxford, UK, company that has been founded to develop the work conducted by Dr Peter Strong in the Medical Research Council, Immunochemistry department, University of Oxford.

The Company's first product is a nasal spray that uses a special preparation of chitin microparticles (CMP), a naturally occuring polysaccaride derived from prawn shells. It acts as an immune enhancer by stimulating the TH1 cells to counteract the imbalance found in people suffering from allergies. Initial tests have shown that is is effective against a wide range of common pollen allergies, house dust mite allergy, and allergy to cats.

Due to the fact that it is a natural product pre-clinical testing was relatively rapid and so has allowed the company to get into clinical trials in record time.

The clinical trials are being conducted in London on 24 subjects with grass pollen allergies and will demonstrate safety and efficacy.

The development is being funded by Inventages Venture capital who have invested euros 2.0m in two rounds as part of a total investment of euros 4.5m.
