Secerno wins Start-up Technology Company of the Year at Computing Awards Award underlines the need for a more effective approach to data security
Database security specialist Secerno has won Start-up Technology Company of the Year in the Computing Awards for Excellence. The Awards recognise those companies who have shown exceptional innovation and excellence in the IT industry and were announced at a gala dinner in London on 25 October.
Secerno was voted Best Technology Start-up by Computing magazine, which represents the most influential and powerful decision makers in the ICT sector. Other finalists for this Award were Chronicle Solutions and Streamshield Networks. Secerno is the first real innovator in database and application assurance. The company has just launched its flagship product, Secerno SQL, having sprung out of Oxford University to offer a completely new approach to application intrusion detection and prevention. Secerno frees CSOs from the limitations of traditional network and host-based IDS/IPS. It provides dynamic protection against any threat to any digital asset by understanding its normal usage and then blocking abnormal behaviour. Paul Davie, CEO of Secerno, commented, “We are delighted to be recognised by Computing. This Award highlights the uniqueness and true appeal of the Secerno model for tackling database security. Companies can no longer afford to spend hours of manpower detecting security flaws in a hit-and-miss way. They need a more intelligent and seamless way to protect digital assets while safely exploiting their information systems.” Secerno is based at Oxford Centre for Innovation, one of a network of 13 Innovation Centres managed by Oxford Innovation. The company has grown rapidly from two to twenty staff since moving to the Innovation Centre. Mr Davie continued: “We feel very lucky that the support for start-ups in the Oxford area is so good. We have benefited from investment by The Oxford Trust and Oxford Venture Management as well as flexible office space in Oxford Centre for Innovation. The support and flexibility provided by staff at the Innovation Centre has allowed us to concentrate fully on developing our technology.” Margaret Hewitt, Manager of Oxford Centre for Innovation, said: “This Award rewards three years of hard work by Paul Davie and Dr Steve Moyle, as co-founders of Secerno, and we congratulate them on their outstanding achievement. Secerno are a great example of the entrepreneurial companies that locate to our Innovation Centres and we wish them every success with their future plans.” Details of the Awards and other winners can be found at www.computingawards.net - ENDS - About Secerno Secerno is the innovator in database and application assurance for the protection of online digital assets.
