Critchleys will be new Sponsor of Oxford Early Investments Network

Oxford Early Investments (OEI), the business angel investment network that helps innovative companies at the early stages of commercial development to raise funding, has announced that Critchleys has agreed to sponsor the Network.

Critchleys is one of the leading independent firms of chartered accountants and business advisors in the Thames Valley. The firm joins a select group of corporate sponsors who have all renewed their sponsorship of the OEI Network, including: NESTA, Manches solicitors, The Oxford Technology Venture Capital Trusts, H2O Venture Partners, CLIK, the technology transfer arm of Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, and Frank B Dehn & Co, patent and trade mark attorneys.

Eileen Modral, Manager of the OEI Network, announced the new sponsorship deal at the recent investment meeting that OEI held jointly with Warwick Ventures, the technology transfer office of Warwick University. At the meeting, an audience of OEI’s investor members heard pitches from a number of high quality companies seeking business development funding.

They included Renewable Regeneration, an Oxfordshire-based company associated with Regenatec, a supplier of dual tank engine technology that allows diesel engine vehicles to also operate safely and reliably on vegetable oils. Renewable Regeneration was set up to grow, harvest and process Jatropha oil for use as a diesel substitute. G-Tronix, a Warwick University spin-out company, is developing novel methods for food inspections that should reduce costs, be more user-friendly and overcome safety concerns. Prospero Therapeutics, a Warwick University spin-out company, has invented a unique protein production platform based on the cultivated mushroom that should enable the rapid, low cost production of therapeutic proteins. PrimerDesign, a Southampton University spin-out, has developed an improved method for detecting DNA in clinical samples, forensic and biomedical research.

Mrs Modral said: “Oxford Early Investments was set up to meet investor demand for very early stage investment opportunities, and has had great success in matching investors with high growth companies that need small but crucial sums to develop their products.

“We are delighted to welcome Critchleys on board as new sponsors of Oxford Early Investments. Their support, alongside our existing sponsors and members, will enable the Network to maintain a high quality service for both investors and companies.”

Peter Kemp, Technology Partner at Critchleys, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for Critchleys to demonstrate its commitment to the early stage technology business angel and entrepreneurial community in Oxfordshire.”

The next OEI Investment Meeting is on 25 April 2007 at the Oxford Science Park
