Fraunhofer and SensorDynamics announce long-term IP agreement

Graz, Austria – April 11, 2007: Fraunhofer the leading organization of applied research and development in Europe and SensorDynamics, a development and supply company manufacturing micro- and wireless semiconductor sensor systems announced today that they have signed a long-term MEMS IP agreement. The agreement strengthens the research and production co-operation between both parties for the next ten years.

Fraunhofer ISIT and SensorDynamics co-operate since 2003 in the development and production of new MEMS sensor generations. With this new agreement SensorDynamics committed a long-term co-development road map for new MEMS sensors especially within the automotive area to Fraunhofer whereas Fraunhofer agreed on a long-term IP exclusivity for SensorDynamics’ business area.

SensorDynamics close cooperation with key-customers on the one hand and partners such as Fraunhofer, Cadence, TSMC, STMicroelectronics, ASE, Teradyne and Multitest on the other hand has resulted in innovative, highly customized MEMS products. For its MEMS mass production SensorDynamics uses a state-of-the-art semiconductor production line situated in a 3.000 sqm clean room in Itzehoe/Germany. The MEMS parts are fabricated in a surface micromachining process using approx. 10 µm thick polysilicon as structural material. The sophisticated signal and fail-safe processing algorithms are implemented in highly integrated circuits using state-of-the-art CMOS and BCD technology. With its cost-effective polymer-based packaging, SensorDynamics’ MEMS sensors systems meet current market requirements of intricate sensor systems.

The agreement reflects SensorDynamics’ strategic objective to be a leader in the field of MEMS sensor systems. MEMS sensors systems will continue to constitute a rapid high growth area in several automotive, industrial and consumer applications in the future.
