Richard Palmer: Brighton’s brightest entrepreneur

Richard Palmer, CEO of design driven materials technology company d3o, was on Friday revealed as Brighton’s representative for the national Arena O2 X Entrepreneur of the Year awards. Richard won regional heats competing against an impressive group of fellow entrepreneurs from the region to now contest with finalists in a range of diverse industries from 5 other UK areas in the national finals of the prestigious contest.

Richard, coming from an unlikely engineering and creative background, launched d3o in 2001 upon discovering the benefits various intelligent materials could bring to the consumer, and has been working avidly since to bring the revolutionary material of the same name to market. d3o is a material containing ‘Intelligent Molecules’ which flow freely under normal conditions making the material soft and flexible, but lock together on shock to absorb the energy from an impact. These qualities translate into a material displaying flexibility but also exceptional impact protection. d3o has provided athletes in a range of sports and disciplines, and now professionals in the law enforcement and tactical markets, with superior impact protection without restricting their freedom of movement, allowing them to perform to their full potential. The material has attained numerous fans in it’s growth including the US ski team, 4 times Everest climber Kenton Cool, and Olympic cyclist Craig McClean who after triumphing in d3o at the brutal Kieren races commented “wearing the d3o gave me peace on mind not to worry about crashing and allowed me to concentrate of giving my best performance”. d3o’s qualities as well as its distinctive signature bright orange make it stand out amongst the crowd, and is revolutionising the market in impact protection. Richard Palmer is leading this revolution.

The 2007 Arena O2 X Entrepreneur of the Year winner will be crowned at a swanky do in central London this Thursday so watch this space…

Rebel engineers d3o Lab combine chemistry, engineering and design to provide the sports industry with cutting edge ‘intelligent’ shock absorption for the 21st Century.

Established in 2001 by CEO Richard Palmer, d3o Lab invented and manufactures revolutionary d3o technology allowing flexible impact protection. d3o is a patented, shock absorbing material with intelligent molecules which flow with you as you move but upon shock lock together to absorb the impact energy. d3o opens up unlimited design possibilities for protective gear enabling the athlete to maintain control at a high level without compromising freedom of movement and balance.

Sussex based d3o Lab is the UK home to a dynamic and growing team of people operating in varied roles. Within the same space lab and material technicians work only feet away from designers, creative zones and sales teams ensuring full integration of ideas from all departments and effective communication in an environment which breeds results.
