Silverstone Innovation Centre hosts Royal Mail Stamps Launch and David Coulthard Fan Club

While the British Grand Prix may have attracted worldwide attention last weekend, July is also proving to be a busy month for Silverstone Innovation Centre, which has recently played host to two prestigious events that drew the crowds. The Centre was chosen as the venue to launch Royal Mail’s new stamps, which feature Grand Prix cars from the past 50 years, while The David Coulthard Fan Club also chose to hold their annual meeting in the building’s conference facilities.

From the first British Grand Prix at Silverstone in 1948 to a weekend when all eyes were on a British driver seeking victory with a locally built engine, Northamptonshire has led the way in motorsport innovation. So Silverstone Innovation Centre was a fitting venue for the launch of Royal Mail’s Grand Prix stamps on a limited edition first day cover by artist Clare Pollitt to a select motorsport audience.

The launch event was organised by Northamptonshire’s “Ambassadors,” a group of local business people brought together through Northamptonshire Enterprise Ltd (NEL) who share a commitment towards promoting their home county. Speakers at the event, Paul Southworth (Executive Chair, NEL), Chris Aylett (CEO of the Motorsport Industry Association) and Andrew Mallery (Business Development Manager, Silverstone Circuits) led a discussion about the UK’s impact on global motorsport and how the expansion of Silverstone Circuit can play a key role in maintaining the UK’s pole position in the motorsport industry. As well as containing the UK’s only Grade 1 motorsport venue, Northamptonshire has 850 companies leading the way in technological innovation for motorsport and the first dedicated motorsport Innovation Centre linked to a world-class race circuit.

The David Coulthard Fan Club event was an opportunity for over 120 fans to meet their hero in an informal setting. Mr Coulthard was joined by Martin Brundle, Vice President of British Racing Drivers Club and F1 commentator for ITV Sport, in a lively Q&A session before rounding off the evening by joining the fans for a buffet reception.

Manager of Silverstone Innovation Centre, Dianne Wilson, said: “We were delighted to host these prestigious events in our new conference facility at Silverstone Innovation Centre. Since opening in 2005, this Centre has become a hub of entrepreneurial activity and is now occupied by 40 growing companies within the motorsport and advanced engineering industry. A further nine companies use our virtual office service.

“We aim to foster the growth of these innovative companies so we offer a range of offices on flexible terms and access to finance from private investors, as well as practical business advice and regular networking events.”

Silverstone Innovation Centre, a joint venture between British Racing Drivers Club and the East Midlands Development Agency, is managed by Oxford Innovation, the UK’s leading operator of innovation centres.

The new conference facility encompasses a suite of meeting and conference rooms, suitable for small meetings or larger corporate events of up to 50 delegates. Companies holding events at the Centre can also take advantage of a hospitality package that includes options for delegates to enjoy a backstage tour of Silverstone Circuit, go trackside to view F1 testing or participate in management training programmes organised by Silverstone Circuit. Delegates at overnight events can also benefit from corporate rates on accommodation at nearby Whittlebury Hall, a superb Georgian-style hotel.
