Mazor launches new product: a bed mounted miniature robotic device

October 16 2007, Atlanta, GA and Caesarea, Israel - Mazor Surgical Technologies, developer and manufacturer of the SpineAssist miniature robotic surgical positioning system, announces the launch of a bed mounted miniature robotic device. The bed mount application enables spine procedures to be performed in a truly minimally invasive manner by mounting the robotic device to the operation-room table rather then to the patientís bony anatomy. The application extends the range of Mazorís guidance and positioning products along the entire spine.

Mazor will debut the new product at the North American Spine Society annual meeting (NASS 2007- October 23-27, Austin, Texas) and again at the German Spine Congress (Wirbelsšulenkongress - December 13-15, Mannheim, Germany).
This new application joins the Mazor SpineAssist platform, already in widespread clinical use, which provides highly accurate placement of spinal implants and related surgical interventions. During spinal procedures, the system guides the surgeon in real time to pinpoint the exact location and trajectory of the implant. Previous applications of the SpineAssist require an attachment to the patientís bony anatomy to provide the superb accuracy which is Mazorís trademark. The previous attachments are achieved by securing a bridge to the spinous process or to the iliac crests. The newly developed bed mount application includes an attachment of the robotic device to the surgical table with only a wire attached to the patientís spinous process. It is meant to be used for mono-segmental minimally invasive cases, including vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty.
