Marshall Aerospace Solutions and Ubisense launch competence centre for RTLS–enhanced aerospace...

Cambridge UK – 28 Nov 2007 Marshall Solutions and Ubisense today announce the creation of an aerospace production RTLS competence centre in Cambridge,UK. The centre is designed to showcase the significant benefits which precise Real Time Location Systems (RTLS) can bring to the production environment.

Marshall Solutions parent company Marshall Aerospace is the UK’s leading independent aerospace contractor with a worldwide reputation for engineering excellence. Decades of experience in aircraft design, manufacture, maintenance, conversion, modification and logistic support are firmly backed up by a dedicated team of over 1,500 highly trained personnel and an exceptional range of facilities housed in 1.2 million square feet of hangar space, in which the Ubisense RTLS is already being used to track test equipment.

RTLS provides significant benefits in complex manufacturing and maintenance environments as has been shown by the system established at Marshall Aerospace. In this application RTLS is used to track the location of test and manufacturing equipment used in the manufacture of aircraft fuel tanks. The tanks themselves are also tracked as they proceed down the production ‘pulse-line’. In this application RTLS provides benefits in terms of cost reduction, man-power savings, reductions in tool loss, and safety improvements.

Marshall’s own co-located airport facility enables aircraft to arrive for maintenance, and also offers a full complement of airport services for commercial, charter, private and training purposes.

The breadth of expertise and experience gained as a manufacturer, in military, commercial and corporate aircraft enables Marshall Aerospace to work on a large variety of aircraft types and projects, whilst also remaining flexible to fulfill the requirements of any customer, at any time or location. The company has a worldwide customer base and whilst much activity centers around the Cambridge base, in recent years Marshall has continued to expand its operations and support locations around the world.
“We are very excited about this development,” stated Peter Hiscocks, CEO of Marshall Solutions. “RTLS has improved the efficiency of our manufacturing operations and we know that this technology has applications across the aerospace manufacturing, MRO and airports businesses. We will use our RTLS system to demonstrate to other potential customers the effectiveness of this approach and the types of savings that they can achieve. We have a great relationship with Ubisense and together we have the experience to make RTLS work for other companies. Our RTLS centre will enable us to create more optimized production processes and provide our customers with the opportunity to share our vision of Aerospace Manufacturing in the future. Marshall Solutions is keen to be your partner in developing RTLS to improve the efficiency and reduce costs in your manufacturing and MRO facilities.”
